  • Work closely with the Accelerator Physics group to ensure ultimate performance and precision of the installed diagnostics is achieved and performance limits are well understood, in particular with regards to small beam sizes and short bunch lengths;
  • Work closely with the Controls group to develop and implement reliable and easy to use operator interfaces to all photon diagnostics;
  • Manage the maintenance and calibration of the associated diagnostics equipment, including visible light extraction, modified beam port absorbers, optical diagnostics cabin and all the associated instrumentation;
  • Collaborate with beamline scientists e.g. to support investigations of beam motion and correlation with observation on machine diagnostics;
  • Provide technical expertise on the optical diagnostics systems including development, operational support and analysis of installed systems;
  • Co-ordinate relationships with suppliers to procure and deliver services, equipment or expertise;

Additional Duties at Diagnostics Physicist Level:

  • Ensure reliable and accurate operation of the visible light and X-ray diagnostics in the Diamond storage ring and injector;
  • Conduct research into methods and techniques to improve existing or implement new measurements;
  • Maintain a current knowledge of other, comparable beamline and accelerator projects. Communicate with physicists/scientists at other facilities to ensure exchange of knowledge;
  • Produce reporting and documentation to support the delivery of systems and provide management information to Group Leaders;

Additional Duties at Senior Diagnostics Physicist Level:

  • Ensure reliable and accurate operation of the visible light and X-ray diagnostics in the Diamond storage ring and injector and at the same time keep it state of the art;
  • Lead research activities into methods and techniques to improve existing or implement new measurements, provide direction for new areas of research;
  • Maintain a current knowledge of other, comparable beamline and accelerator projects. Communicate with physicists/scientists at other facilities to ensure exchange of knowledge. Initiate collaborations on an international level;
  • Contribute to the development of new systems and approaches through identification of possible improvements and structured recommendations to management;
