Job Description

Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. Located at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, we enable world-leading research across a wide range of scientific disciplines and industrial applications.

We are currently seeking enthusiastic and flexible individuals to work on a casual /ad-hoc basis. Diamond Light Source is offering a range of technical and administrative casual work.

These include:

Creation of E-Books


Every year Diamond publishes a review of its scientific highlights. For the first time last year Diamond published an eBook version of the review. We are looking for a student to investigate and design a documented process to publish our annual review and possibly other event related publications on an eBook format compatible with the main current platforms. There are two main deliverables for this project:

• A documented process

• This year’s Annual Review published as an eBook

Qualifications and Experience: Essential

• A good understanding of CSS, XHTML and Adobe CS5 technology.

General administrative help:

• Organise mail-outs;
• Desk research;
• Assist with media monitoring activities;
• General assistance with logistics linked with communications activities;
• Assist in the following;
• stock control for events and other activities;
• conferences, workshops and events;
• exhibitions, logistics and their delivery;
• content editing for websites;
• Contribute to other activities as required by the communications team.
 

 

Qualification & Experience - Essential

 • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
• Attention to detail;
• Strong verbal and written communications skills;
• Knowledge of MS office, mail merge and database system and Internet searching;
• An interest in scientific research;
• IT literacy;
• Ability to work flexible hours.

Qualification & Experience - Desirable

• Experience of content editing web and intranet sites;
• Experience in research methods;
• Ability to work at weekends.
