Diamond Light Source welcomes applications from all over the world and our employees come from many different countries, cultures and backgrounds.
Applicants from outside the UK should note that we are bound by certain United Kingdom legal restrictions applying to the employment of non-UK nationals in the UK.
Diamond can apply for work permits if it recruits suitable candidates who are not ordinarily resident in the UK or who are not nationals of the European Economic Area.
The Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 requires that all successful candidates provide evidence of their immigration status and eligibility to seek work in the UK.
Further details on work permits and other relevant information is available from the Home Office website.
For further information, please also contact the Diamond HR team on +44 (0)1235 778218.
If you are entering the employment market and will be living in the UK for the first time, you will need to apply for a National Insurance number and open a UK bank account for payment of your salary.
Further information on how to obtain a National Insurance Number can be obtained from the website of the Department of Work and Pensions.
Healthcare in the UK is provided by The National Health Service. Their website provides useful information on the UK Healthcare system (http://www.nhs.uk/)
If you intend to drive in the UK you may also need to investigate how to obtain a UK driving licence if you live outside the EU. The following website (http://www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/drvingb.htm) will provide you with advice on driving in the UK as a visitor or new resident.
You may find the website www.internationalstaff.ac.uk useful when planning your move to the UK. It is aimed towards international staff moving to UK universities, however, you may find information relevant to your potential move to work at Diamond.
The Company has a legal responsibility to ensure that all employees are entitled to live and work in the UK. For some vacancies (those requiring specific skills or in shortage occupations) we may be able to obtain a Certificate of Sponsorship for a suitably qualified applicant as part of the process of obtaining permission to work in the UK from the UK Border Agency (UKBA).
Further information on this can be viewed on the UKBA website. However, for most other vacancies it may be unlikely that permission to work in the UK would be granted. You can check whether you would be eligible to work in the UK under the points-based system for migrant workers using the UKBA point’s calculator.
If you have any queries regarding your entitlement to apply for one of our vacancies please e-mail recruitment@diamond.ac.uk
