Job Description

1. Lead the finance team in respect of the control of the accounting processes and records to ensure that they are complete and accurate and form a proper basis for financial reporting. Specifically this requires a knowledge and understanding of the appropriate professional standards and the ability to interpret them so that they can be applied appropriately to Diamond’s circumstances, and the professional knowledge and skills to be able to check that this has been delivered.
2. Deliver accurate, timely and informative reports, including the monthly Management Accounts, for budget holders, management, shareholders, third parties and statutory authorities
3. Provide professional advice so as to ensure Diamond’s compliance with International Accounting Standards, Company Acts and other statutory requirements, HMG financial reporting requirements and HMRC tax (VAT) regulations.
4. Manage the planning and delivery of the supporting information for the external Audit of the Statutory Accounts, and resolve any issues so as to ensure that the Audit is completed on time.
5. Exercise professional judgement regarding the appropriate valuation of the company’s assets and liabilities, and negotiate their agreement with the external auditors.
6. Identifying opportunities for system improvements and then leading in the implementation of the agreed projects: co-ordinating internal and external resource to deliver the project on time and to budget.  
7. Ensuring that all payments to be made are properly authorised, appropriate and in compliance
with company procedures.
8. Contribute to the company wide budgeting and forecasting processes, and resolve queries and issues with budget holders.
9. Line management of designated staff, providing professional leadership, support and motivation.
10. Provide “cross cover” as appropriate when required i.e. be capable of undertaking their duties if necessary for the tasks normally performed by other team members
11. Any additional accounting duties as deemed necessary.

Qualification & Experience - Essential

• Ability to lead the month end process and provide error free reporting
• Knowledge of accounting rules and how to apply them to both statutory and management accounts
• Attention to detail, able to review documents for errors and ability to correct them
• Able to prioritise work and manage various  demands, from various sources, and time pressures
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently as required
• Good numeracy skills, and good communication skills (written and verbal)
• Knowledge of management accounting
• Taken the responsibility for the initial preparation of management accounts
• Understanding and ability to prepare balance sheet reconciliations
• Basic foundation of work within a finance department several years experience, so that basic accounting such as accruals/prepayments etc are easily understood
• Knowledge of  fixed asset and depreciation reporting
• Qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACCA) or Passed Finalist
• Excel to pivot table and macro level
 

Qualification & Experience - Desirable

• Supervisory skills
• Knowledge of preparing and submitting VAT and Intrastat returns
• Experience in project and major asset accounting
• Involvement in production of statutory accounts
• Understanding of the requirement and involvement in an annual budgeting
• Some experience of systems development either assisting, suggesting or taking part in an improvement project
• Ability to effectively communicate a financial perspective to highly qualified (but non financial) members of staff
