Job Description
Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. Located at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, we enable world-leading research across a wide range of scientific disciplines and industrial applications.
The Optics and Metrology Group at Diamond provides expert support to the beamline scientists in the design, acceptance and optimisation of beamline optics, and the development of specialised optical systems.
We wish to appoint an Optics Scientist to join our well-established Optics and Metrology Group and to work on diverse areas of X-ray optics. In particular, the successful candidate will work on the optics of soft X-ray beamlines. This would involve optical design, specifications, procurement and testing of optics for such beamlines. There would be opportunity to participate in X-ray optics related research and development projects, and to pursue own research projects in that area.

• Provide professional support in the optical design and commissioning of beamlines, especially in the soft X-ray regime, working in close collaboration with beamline scientists;
• Support beamline scientists in specifying, procuring and testing of beamline optics;
• Simulating and modelling beamlines using ray tracing software;
• Develop and test software codes for simulating beamline optics;
• Design and test x-ray optical elements for beamlines;
• Support setting up and operation of peripheral laboratories allocated for optics support;
• Undertake research in the field of X-ray optics;
• Publish work in peer-reviewed journals
