We would like to invite you to the next instalment of our monthly webinar series, a Live Family Webinar ‘Building a Beamline' on Wednesday 17th March at 16:00pm. Everyone is welcome to tune in as this webinar is specifically aimed at a general audience and no previous knowledge is required. As always you will get the opportunity to ask our experts any questions you might have. You can catch up with our previous webinars on our website here.

**This week we will be following the journey of how a beamline at Diamond is engineered and built, from an empty space on the Experimental Hall floor to a fully functioning beamline! Diamond’s beamlines are our laboratories, and they are where the experiments actually happen. We will explore the engineering challenges involved in creating Diamond’s newest beamline, DIAD (Dual Imaging and Diffraction beamline), a laboratory that is the first beamline worldwide that can simultaneously perform both X-ray imaging and diffraction experiments at the same time. Incorporating two experiments in DIAD required advanced engineering and software, from robot arms moving detectors to automating experiments and analysis. Tune in on Wednesday to hear all about the technical and logistical challenges the team faced, the solutions to which make DIAD truly unique! **

Amy and David from our Public Engagement team will be joined by Chris Charlesworth, a Senior Electrical Project Engineer who worked on building DIAD. Chris will guide us through the process of building a beamline, giving us an insight into the engineering challenges the team faced throughout the process. Chris will also answer all of your questions about engineering a beamline, and as always Amy and David will be on hand to answer any questions you have about Diamond in general.

Tune in on Wednesday 17th March via Zoom (please note: questions can be submitted via the ‘Q & A’ function and attendees will be not be visible during the webinar). To receive the joining link please register for the webinar via the link below. Once registered you will receive an email with the joining instructions. On Wednesday all you have to do is click on the link in the email and you will be taken straight to the webinar.
