I24 is open for standard remote access experiments. Please read the guidelines carefully. In case of questions, or for information about more complex experiments such as SSX, please contact the beamline staff.
Please see the News and Current Status tab for the latest updates
I24 is a tuneable microfocus beamline for MX. It was the first beamline if its kind to be built in Europe and has been operating since 2008. We are continuously updating features and currently offer a modular endstation to rapidly switch from pin-based cryogenic collection to serial data collection.
The beamline offers extremely high flux densities with the ability to investigate virus structure, membrane proteins, microcrystals (crystals as small as 1.5 microns have been measured successfully). It combines versatile optics and the most sophisticated detectors available with the most advanced automation systems to enable sample location, data collection and analysis.
We offer two standard modes of data collection: cryo (SPINE pins) and in situ. We also offer serial (fixed target, thin film and LCP extruder) data collection. Serial data collection is in a developmental stage and any early experiments can only be done in collaboration with beamline staff - if you're interested please contact the I24 PBS. We are always happy to try new or challenging experiments: get in touch if you have a experiment we can help with.
We don't currently offer UDC but you can automate data collection using GDA to start a queue - ask for advice
Please email us details of any problems you run into, or any other comments or suggestions.

Please discuss your requirements with your local contact or a member of the beamline team before your experiment especially if you want to do something out of the ordinary. We are always happy to try and do novel or difficult experiments - get in touch if you have an ambitous idea...
We are currently operating via responsive scheduling, with visits set up after a shipment has arrived at Diamond. We can also pre-schedule shifts for serial experiments. Please get in touch with the beamline team for this.
In both cases you will emailed details of when the shift starts/ends. In case of questions get in touch with your local contact.
