Remote sessions

Most sessions at eBIC are remote, guides for remote access and session setup can be found here. 

The user should read and familiarise themselves with the appropriate guide relevant to their data collection session in advance of the start of the session. 

1. Submit session ERA in UAS.
   • For SPA/TOMO submit your ERA at least 1 week before the start of your session
2. Arrange sample shipping
   • Register shipping dewar and log details in SCAUP
   • Include your sample details, data collection parameters and types of grids for your experiment in SCAUP
   • (Note: if you have any specific loading instructions your should communicate these directly with your local contact in advance of your session)
3. Read appropriate user guide relevant to your data collection session
   • (Note: these guides contain important information regarding file formats and naming conventions)

• after sample loading the local contact will complete basic microscope alignments, camera tuning and gain reference collection
• the local contact will email users when the microscope is aligned and the image filter tuned, to inform the user that they can start their remote session set up
• users should refer to the appropriate user guide when setting up their remote data collection session

• it is expected that all BAGs accessing eBIC will have a local point of knowledge who has attended BAG training and can confidently assist other members of the BAG with remote data collection sessions at eBIC. 
  • If you will require additional assistance with session setup, please let your local contact know by email in advance of your session so they are aware
• users should refer to the appropriate user guide when setting up their remote data collection session

• users are welcome to collect multiple data sets during a session, but eBIC ask users to discuss potential magnification changes with their local contact at least a week in advance of your session

For problems outside normal working hours of (Mon - Fri, 09.00 to 17.00), users should call Diamond Experimental Hall Coordinators (EHCs) on +44 (0) 1235 77 8787 and inform them of the following:

• they are a user running a remote session on a Krios electron microscope
   
• provide the Experimental Hall Coordinator with their local contact's name

The Diamond Experimental Hall Coordinator will make best efforts to get in touch with eBIC staff, who will attempt to address the problem.
