The most recent in the series of S4SAS Conferences was held in September 2021 Online, hosted by DLS, Sponsored by Aerotech and Dectris with additional support from ExPaNDS.

With excellent plenarys from

• Dr. Thomas D. Grant - University at Buffalo, NY, USA
• Dr. Felix Lehmkühler - DESY, Hamburg, Germany 

and a number of very well delivered contributed talks, the conference was a success by any measure. There was a wonderful turn out from the Small Angle Scattering community with over 150 attendees from over 24 countries across the globe.

Of special note were the afternoon poster sessions, held within virtual breakout rooms of the main conference. Two poster prizes we

The Biological prize, Biological Small Angle Scattering: Theory and Practice. Lattman, E. E., Grant, T. D., Snell, E. H., to Arron Bale based in Durham for his poster entitled "How to zoom out the Ramachandran constraints for BioSAXS data"

The Materials prize, Scattering Methods and their Application in Colloid and Interface Science - Otto Glatter, to Olga Matsarskaia based at the ILL for on for her poster entitled "Small-angle scattering: a powerful toolbox to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of Wilson’s disease"

​The latest in the series of S4SAS workshops and User Meetings was held at Diamond in July. Keynote Speakers for the User meeting included

• Emre Brookes (University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio)
• Andy Pickford (University of Portsmouth)
• Ken Lewtas (Lewtas Science & Technologies)
• Johannes Möller (Technische Universität Dortmund)
• Stephan Roth (HASYLAB at DESY)

The workshop, attended by 29 delegates, was held at Diamond for the first time in 2014. The pattern, now well established, is for a series of introductory lectures and tutorials on various aspects of SAXS available at Diamond followed by an interactive afternoon session with the software available at Diamond. 

The Subsequent Science meeting was attended by over 50 delegates from all areas of the SAXS community in the UK and Europe.

The poster prize, presented by Dr Andy Pickford from Portsmouth University,  was won by Helen Troilo from Manchester with a poster entitled "The nanostructure of the BMP antagonist chordin reveals novel roles for the terminal domains in regulating bioactivity"

Previous meetings were held in Sheffield on 25-27 March 2013 and in Cardiff 2010.

Diamond Light Source and The University of Sheffield jointly hosted the 2nd S4SAS workshop for scientists new to SAXS on the 25th to the 27th March 2013. Both the Workshop and User Meeting took place at the Chemistry Department of the University of Sheffield and followed a similar format to that of the first S4SAS workshop held in Cardiff in September 2010.

Diamond and Cardiff University (School of Optometry & Vision Sciences) held a workshop for scientists new to SAXS and a user meeting in Cardiff, September 1-3 2010. Latest results plus future prospects for SAXS at Diamond (I22, B21, I12, etc,..) were discussed together with a perspective of the field from the wider international SAS community.
