Training

Training at eBIC

eBIC training programmes are designed to provide essential training to both the eBIC user base and the wider community while also promoting the open sharing of materials, fostering collaborations and delivering workshops that strengthen community knowledge in cryo‑EM, cryo‑ET, and sample preparation. These activities are delivered both directly and through national and international initiatives, including the Wellcome-MRC cryo-EM training programme, iNEXT-Discovery and Instruct.

The Harwell campus, where eBIC is based, provides an exceptional training environment, bringing together a critical mass of expertise in X‑ray, light, and electron bio‑imaging. This includes strengths in instrumentation and technology development, high‑performance computing, software development, and automated workflows, alongside a strong track record of organising workshops and symposia.

eBIC also works closely with CCP‑EM, Diamond, Instruct, and other centres to meet training demand from a broad and diverse user base.

Accessing training at eBIC

Training at eBIC is delivered through two main routes:

  1. BAG User Training – tailored to eBIC BAG users to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the eBIC user programme. These sessions are regularly to ensure that each BAG has a local point of expertise who can confidently support other members of the BAG during remote data collection at eBIC
  2. Community Training & Events – specialist courses, workshops, and events open to the whole cryo‑EM community. Where possible, we aim to openly share materials from these courses (these can be found on the event page for each course on the left hand navigation).

Use the links below and the left hand navigation to access BAG training information, upcoming community courses & events, helpful resources and our user guides.
