Sam joined eBIC as a PDRA in January 2024, working in Yuriy Chaban’s group. Sam’s work focuses on improving data analysis in cryo-EM, exploring innovative approaches for particle picking, denoising, 3d reconstruction, and post processing.

Sam did his PhD at the University of Manchester under Prof. Curtis Dobson, where he characterised the activity of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) using SEM and AFM, biophysical techniques, antimicrobial assays, and machine learning to discover sequence – activity relationships in these peptides.

Following his PhD Sam was a PDRA at the University of York under Prof. Reidun Twarock, where he studied single stranded virus assembly and the interactions between RNA molecules and viral proteins. During his time at York, he also developed several data analysis packages for his lab based collaborators.
