Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX) is known by many acronyms including XEDS, EDS and sometimes referred to as Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDXA). It is a technique employed to determine the chemical characteristics and/or elemental composition of a sample. The technique is versatile as it can be qualitative and quantitative as well as giving spatial elemental distribution through mapping.
