Diamond Light Source and The University of Sheffield jointly hosted the 2nd S4SAS workshop for scientists new to SAXS on the 25th to the 27th March 2013. Both the Workshop and User Meeting took place at the Chemistry Department of the University of Sheffield and followed a similar format to that of the first S4SAS workshop held in Cardiff in September 2010.
The workshop included introductory lectures to the various SAXS techniques possible and an interactive afternoon session with the software available at Diamond, ideal for early career researchers as well as PhD students.
The main meeting included keynote, contributed talks and discussions on the latest results plus future prospects for SAXS at Diamond (I22, B21, I08, etc,..) together with a perspective of the field from the wider international SAS community.
Keynote Speakers for the main meeting
A poster session was held on the Tuesday of the meeting and poster prizes awarded to Hanna Barriga and Nicola McCarthy from Imperial College for their poster entitled "Probing highly swollen amphiphilic structures and the dynamic induction of domain formation via pressure jumps"
and to Efrosyni Themistou from Sheffield University for her poster entitled "Time-Resolved SAXS Study of pH-Responsive Polymeric Nanoparticles Dissociation"
The Judges wanted to commend everyone for the standard of the posters at the meeting. The Presentations were made by Nicoleta Galatanu and Pierre Panine from Xenocs who sponsored the Poster Session.
