Accessing VMXm

We can currently cater for protein and chemical crystals in the range 1 - 20 µm in size (smallest dimension). Suitable samples may include:

• Initial microcrystals from sparse matrix screens (<5 µm).
• Cases where larger crystals are difficult to grow (<5 µm).
• Crystals previously tested on other beamlines (<20 µm).
• Larger agglomerated forms such as needles, plates, and sea urchins.

Samples must be prepared on TEM grids and mounted on specialized holders provided by the beamline staff. Initially, we recommend that users prepare their samples on-site with the VMXm team, utilizing the available equipment in the sample preparation lab.

VMXm is curently accepting samples via the standard MX routes (BAG proposal and Rapid Access) for both protein and chemical samples. Beamline staff will work closely with users to obtain the best possible results from user samples within the current operating envelope.
