BAG Access

BAG is the main access route to use eBIC microscopes

  • Peer reviewed access for groups of users.
  • Flexible & frequent eBIC access (over a 2-year period).
  • BAG groups can be researchers from the same institute, or a range of smaller institutes in the same region.
  • Typically, 5-15 Principal Investigators for each BAG.
  • For full details of the Diamond BAG system follow this link: apply for BAG access.
  • Applications are made via the Diamond User Administration System: UAS
(request eBIC-Cryo-Electron Microscopy for Life Sciences).
  • Successful applications are scheduled sessions using a Krios microscope
(or where required the Krios microscope at OPIC).

Before a BAG proposal commences: applications can still be submitted for Rapid Access.

Once a BAG proposal commences: please note:

  • users will not be awarded additional time through Rapid Access.
  • requests for more/less time need to be made through the bi-annual BAG process, (in line with proposal deadlines).
  • all eBIC microscope time will be allocated to the BAG.

Contact eBIC with any questions, or to discuss informally detailed requirements for BAG's, joining an existing BAG or forming a new BAG (ahead of the deadline): EBICadmin@diamond.ac.uk

  • New BAG proposal
  • After BAG awarded

Initial details required for a new BAG proposal include:

  • Individual Principal Investigators (PI) who will be attached to the proposal.
  • BAG Coordinator responsible for the proposal (and efficient organisation of microscope time).
  • Alternate Contact (AC) may be nominated by the PI (to have permission to act on their behalf).
  • Often the AC is the person responsible for organising visits to Diamond (multiple AC's can be nominated).
  • Details of the projects which are to be studied.
  • Sample information for these projects must also be specified on the proposal.
  • Amount of time required for the following 6 months.

Information to be submitted every 6 months after a BAG has been awarded include:

  • A report on the work which has been undertaken to date.
  • Amount of microscope time required for the following 6 months.
  • New projects and samples can also be included at this stage (as well as additional people).
