Jesus College

The SR Summer School will be held at Jesus College, located in the very centre of Oxford.  It offers first-rate facilities within easy walking distance of all the main attractions of the city of Oxford.

Jesus College was founded by Queen Elizabeth I in 1571 and is the only Oxford College dating from her reign. The man behind its foundation, and its first benefactor, was Dr Hugh Price, Treasurer of St David's in South Wales; thus a link with the Principality was established which has continued to the present day. To find out more about the College, please click here.

Jesus College is located in the heart of Oxford's city centre. The entrance to the College is on Turl Street (off Broad Street, Cornmarket Street or the High Street).

By Air

Oxford is linked with both London Heathrow and Gatwick airports by The Airline coach service which operates a direct, regular service, day and night, seven days a week. To get to Oxford from London Stansted airport, use the National Express 757 coach, which runs every two hours.

If you get off the coach in Oxford at the stop on the High Street (called Queen's Lane), Jesus College is a five-minute walk away. If you get off at the city centre coach station (called Gloucester Green), there is a taxi rank nearby or you can walk to College in 7-10 minutes. A few taxi firms also offer bookable airport transfers, including Oxicars (01865 875900) and CCB cars (01865 876699).

By Rail

A direct train service operates between Oxford and London Paddington and runs about every 30 minutes. To reach Oxford from Birmingham New Street you will need to go via Banbury or Coventry. Other services to Oxford from different areas of the country are available via Reading, Birmingham New Street or Didcot. For further information, visit UK Railways on the Net. From Oxford train station, you can take a taxi to College from the taxi rank outside the station, catch a bus into the city centre, or enjoy a 15-minute walk.

By Coach

The Oxford Tube (01865 772250) and Oxford Express (01865 785410) provide a very frequent, direct service between London and Oxford. They run 24 hours a day, seven days a week and pick-up and drop off places in London include Victoria Coach Station, Grosvenor Gardens and Marble Arch, among others. Once in Oxford, the best stop for Jesus is the High Street (called Queen's Lane), and Jesus College is a five-minute walk away. If you get off at the city centre coach station (called Gloucester Green), there is a taxi rank nearby or you can walk to College in 7-10 minutes.

By Car

Oxford is connected to London, the M25 and the Midlands by the M40 motorway, with Junctions 8 and 9 linking directly to the city. The Oxford ring road provides direct access to and from the south and west via the A34.

Parking in the city centre is extremely limited and very expensive, so we recommend using the Park & Ride service. Frequent bus services link five Park & Ride car parks located just within the ring road. They are: Pear Tree (no. 300) and Water Eaton (no. 500) (north); Seacourt (no. 400) (west); Redbridge (no. 300) (south); and Thornhill (no. 400) (east). Contact Oxford Bus Company (01865 785400) or see Park & Ride for timetables and prices. Please note that there is no parking available at Jesus College. If you do want to drive into Oxford, the most convenient multi-storey is in the Westgate Centre; access is from Thames Street.
