Serial Data Processing

In serial crystallography experiments, it is critical to have rapid or real-time feedback to guide data collection and decision-making. Such feedback should provide the user with key information, including:

• What is the hit rate?
• Do the crystals diffract? How far?
• How many indexed images? Are the unit cell paramaters as expected?

Access to this information allows users to make informed, timely decisions about the progress and optimisation of their experiments. The user will know when they have enough images for a complete dataset.

The MX Data Analysis group has developed a tool called SSX Live, which enables real-time monitoring of serial crystallography experiments and provides immediate feedback to users. To access SSX Live, you must be on the VPN or NoMachine.

• The MX Data Analysis group has implemented an automatic pipeline using xia2.ssx to process serial data. Before collecting data, the user should create a yml file with the correct unity cell and space group. For example at i24, this file should be in:
  • /dls/i24/data/2026/mx####-##/my-protein-name.yml
  • The yml file should look as below:
  • For data collection use the same name ("my-protein-name") for the sample name
