Cooling Sequence

VMXm does not currently have cooling at the sample position. It is therefore necessary to grip the sample with the gripper every 5 minutes and cool the sample for 5 minutes. Every time a data collection occurs, the current positions of the grid are saved. At the end of the cooling sequence, VMXm will return the grid to the previously saved positions.

Cooling of the sample can be controlled from the Sample Handling section along the top of the GDA Client window (see right).

When you are ready to cool a sample, click 'Cool Sample'. There may be a very small delay while the sequence has started. It is always good practice to watch to see that the cooling sequence starts.

Once the sample is gripped, the Cooling time remaining will start a 300 second countdown.

After 300 seconds of cooling, the 'Resume after cooling' button will become available. When you are ready to resume data collection, click 'Resume after cooling' and wait for the grid to come back into view in the OAV View and stop moving.

The grid position is saved every time a data collection is triggered. However, you may find that you have aligned a crystal but have run out of time during the data collection time window. In this case, you can click 'Save data collection position' under 'Save current motor positions'. This will save the current position on the grid and the cooling sequence will return the grid to this position after the sequence is complete.
