Xe Chamber

In lab 14 users can access an Oxford XCell Xe Chamber which can be used to derivatise crystals with Xenon to assist with phasing.

Please speak to your local contact in advance of your trip to Diamond if you would like to make use of this facilty to ensure the equipment is available for use.

• Do not disconnect the gas hose from the regulator while the gas hose is still pressurised.
• Do not open the chamber while the Xcell is pressurised. If the chamber is opened the Xcell is designed to vent safely.
• Do not remove the filter paper cap while the Xcell is pressurised. If the filter paper cap is opened, the Xcell is designed to vent through the cap safely.
• Do not open the vent valve too rapidly when a crystal is held inside to avoid losing important crystals.
• When pressurising the Xcell, do not exceed 25 bar.
• When attempting to pressurise the Xcell, make sure the vent valve is fully closed. This will avoid wasting valuable xenon.
• Do not use the Xcell on an uneven surface.
• Do not unscrew any of the fittings on the Xcell especially when pressurised.
• Be careful not to damage the face of the pressure gauge as its plastic could crack.
