I14 possesses an electrochemistry laboratory where battery cells can be assembled/dissasembled and cycled. We are working with both coin cells and pouch cells.
All the necessary materials can be vacuum dried beforehand using the Buchi drying oven.
The prepared cells can be analysed with BioLogic SP-200 with low current probe (down to pA). This potentiostat is also integrated with the beamline control software, allowing for in situ/operando measurements.
The prepared cells can be also cycled with the 8-channel battery cycler.
Pellet press is available for the I14 users to prepare pellet samples for XANES measurements. For instructions on how to use pellet press please see here. For instructions on how to prepare a suitable pellet for the measurements of standards please see here.
Pelltes of air sensitive samples can be prepared inside the I14 glovebox using a mini-pellet press.
Powder samples/crystals can be mounted on MiTeGen kapton loops using micromanipulator. It allows for precise mounting of single particles under microscope.
Pillar samples of desired dimensions can be cut using Oxford Lasers micro machining system. It can also be used for coarse milling of tomography samples.
Any fine sample milling can be achieve using FIB-SEM equipment.
An AxioImagerM2.m light microscope is available for microscopy, with objectives between 5x and 50x as well as DIC adaptors, and Zeiss 3.7 software for time series and z stacks. A simple stereoscope is also available. Please speak to your local contact if you would like to use this equipment during your beamtime.
Access to any of the equipment listed above should be discussed with the beamline staff and specified in the beamtime proposal.
