An opportunity for Early Career Scientists to hear from speakers from a diverse range of career paths.
Early career scientists have developed a wealth of both generic and specialist skills opening a large number of possible career paths both within and beyond academic research. One of the problems that most PhD students, postdocs and other early career scientists find however is a significant lack of careers advice about the breadth of opportunities open to them both within academia and in commercial industry.
To help junior scientists understand more about options, opportunities and career paths in science, the Postdoc committee at Diamond Light Source is delighted to announce the Early Career Scientist Symposium, which will be held online, from 26th to 30th October 2020.
The event will feature a number of speakers from a very diverse range of science careers, who will discuss their experiences and share advice on finding the best job opportunities. There will be also Q&A sessions providing an opportunity to discuss topics directly with the speakers. Despite the event being held online, there will be aslo a number of relaxed networking opportunities: over a cup of tea, during a virtual dinner, or while taking part in our quiz night!
Participants from previous editions of the event were always very impressed with the open and frank way speakers described difficulties they have had and how they overcame them.

Registration for the Early Career Scientists Symposium 2020 is now CLOSED
There is no fee to attend this online symposium, but registration is mandatory. Spaces are limited, and will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Once registered, all final details (including the final agenda and further info about the speakers) will be sent to you via email, a few days ahead the event.
As the event is taking place virtually, you will need access to an online device such as a laptop, computer or iPad. To help with interaction, it is also encouraged to have a working webcam and microphone (if not already built in to your online device). To aid with networking, we will set up a seperate virtual room for the breaks in which you can see and chat to attendees and speakers over a tea or coffee from the comfort of your own home!
