My research interests include the development of sample preparation methods for microcrystal crystallography for both X-ray diffraction using VMXm and electron diffraction (ED/microED/3DED). This involves the development of new methods for mounting microcrystals to obtain high quality diffraction data with minimal sample usage. I am also interested in the possibilities for the processing of samples between cryo-cooling of the sample and the diffraction experiment using methods such as focused ion beam milling. During the building and commissioning of VMXm, ED of protein crystals has grown significantly. The sample envelope between X-ray and ED has become closer than ever through the development of VMXm. As such, I am particularly interested in the crossover between X-ray diffraction and ED, specifically the sample size requirements, the information content of such experiments and the radiation damage that each type of radiation can generate.
