The Coherent Soft X-ray Imaging and Diffraction (CSXID) beamline will be one of the three flagship beamlines in the Diamond-II upgrade programme. It will be the newest addition to the Magnetic Materials Group (MMG) and will provide a range of high-resolution coherent imaging techniques including ptychography and holography. These imaging techniques will be extended to provide three-dimensional imaging by combining them with tomography and laminography reconstructions.
The beamline will have a focus on quantum and functional materials research and the polarized soft x-ray source will provide imaging contrast to both the chemical composition and magnetic spin structure within materials.
The beamline will include two dedicated endstations with sample environments focussed on the two key research areas. For quantum and magnetic materials, a magnetic field, cryogenic sample temperatures and contacts for electrical excitation will be provided along with a detection system for time-resolved dynamic measurements. For functional materials research including battery and catalytic science, the imaging functionality will be used alongside gas heating cells and electrochemical reaction cells providing capability for in-operando measurements.
The beamline is currently in its planning phase and will be available to the research community in 2030.
