Capillary Gas Cells

Gas control system

  • I11 is equipped with a gas dosing panel for ease of adding low or high pressure gas to sample cells during data collection.
  • Sample cells can be evacuated (mbar) then gas added to low pressures (1.5bar) or high pressures (100 bar) depending on the cell used

Low pressure capillary cell

  • A capillary cell is available for in-situ gas absorption/desorption studies at pressures up to 1.5 bar
  • The cell can be heated or cooled using the beamline hot air blower (RT - 1000°C) or cryostream (80-500K)

High pressure capillary cell

  • A capillary cell is available for in-situ gas absorption/desorption studies at pressures up to 100 bar
  • The cell can be heated or cooled using the beamline hot air blower (RT - 1000°C) or cryostream (80-500K)
  • Sapphire capillaries are used for high temperature and pressure
  • The cell can be isolated to enable air sensitive samples to be loaded in a glove box and transported onto the beamline in inert atmosphere.

Flow cell

A modified version of the high pressure cell is also available for gas flow experiments, using a separate mass controller panel allowing the mixing and flow of up to 3 gases at 1 bar pressure.

For further information about the gas cells or control system please contact beamline staff.
