The annual American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) meeting offers a fantastic platform for scientists to present their research to a varied audience including scientists from across many disciplines, and members of the public who are keen to learn about the latest scientific developments and issues that are relevant to society as a whole.

New communications award for summer students

Diamond kicked 2015 off with a bang, staging a prize-giving ceremony for the first ever winner of the Student Science Communicators Competition, launched in 2014. The competition was set up to encourage young people working at Diamond to present their experiences as scientists to the public in thoughtful and creative ways.

2015 – the International Year of Light

At Diamond, we will be taking part in the International Year of Light and Light-Based Technologies at events around the UK and Europe for this exciting year. As one of the brightest lights in the world, we are proud to participate in UNESCO's Year of Light, and have the chance to tell the stories of our scientists and their work to improve lives and advance science through using the synchrotron.

Work experience supporting the future of STEM

Recruiting in science, particularly into engineering and computing, is increasingly difficult. The skills gap in STEM subjects is a real worry for scientific institutes and skilled industry, and could present a risk to operations in future years if talented students of all ages – from school through university and beyond – are not nurtured and encouraged to experience the diverse range of rewarding and challenging career opportunities available. Our schemes here at Diamond tie in with national efforts to ensure that students are aware of careers in STEM subjects.
