1) Insight into the morphogenesis of giant viruses

Exploring the similarities and differences between assembly of different giant virus species in amoebae to pinpoint conserved aspects of their replication.

2) Decoding polymicrobial nosocomial infections via synchrotron-based multimodal imaging

Uncovering how co-infections between yeast and bacteria reshape intracellular architecture. 

3) Understanding the interplay between homeostatic cellular oxygen sensing and elemental metals using advanced cryoimaging

Dr Archana Jadhav (B24, Diamond), Dr Jessica Walker (I14, Diamond), Dr Laura Zanetti-Domingues (CLF), and Dr Peter Wing (Universify of Oxford).

This project investigates how hypoxia and viral infection alter the spatial distribution of intracellular iron and metal cofactors, using advanced correlative imaging to reveal how these changes reshape cellular metabolism and viral replication.

4) Comparative in situ characterisation of respiratory supercomplexes in human mitochondria

Miss Ines Zouhair (UCL/Diamond), Dr Emma Buzzard (eBIC, Diamond), Dr Valentina Loconte (B24, Diamond), and Dr Amandine Marechal (UCL).

This study examines how COX7A isoforms regulate mitochondrial supercomplex assembly and structure, and how these differences drive changes in cellular energy metabolism.
