Private and NHS

Anyone who is ordinarily resident in the UK is entitled to medical care under the National Health Service (NHS). Many people may also choose to register with a private medical practice.

In the UK health care system (both private and NHS) the General Practitioner (GP - Doctor) is always the first point of contact. In practice, you must see your GP first so that they can refer you to a specialist.

GPs and Dentists

You should register with a GP in your area as soon as possible to ensure that if it becomes necessary, you may either consult via your doctor at their surgery or ask for a home visit.
