Now you have finished your experiment at Diamond you have a few tasks to do to ensure your time with us is completed correctly.
After every session at Diamond, as a PI or AC, you will be prompted to complete an End of Experiment Feedback Form in UAS. This form is your opportunity to detail any shifts that were lost or gained during the session and to provide feedback about all aspects of your time at Diamond.
This feedback is reviewed regularly and every comment is taken seriously. Feedback has no influence on the subsequent allocation of access to Diamond since comments are never made public unless they have been anonymised.
Team members who are eligible for support will receive an automatic email from the User Office after their beamtime has ended with a link to the online claim system.
Details of eligibility and what can be claimed can be found in our Financial Support & Expenses Procedure.
Claims cannot be paid to any third party
For example:
Home establishment: In this instance an invoice should be raised to which receipts should be attached. All documentation should be sent to Accounts Payable: [email protected] It is important that the invoice references the beamtime visit and has the names of the users for which the costs were incurred. It should be sent as soon as possible after beamtime and no later than 90 days after the session end date.
Bank accounts not in the name of the claimant: Claims can only be reimbursed to the user who incurred the cost.
Please note: Diamond receives a high volume of claims and it can take up to four weeks for your claim to be processed and paid to your account.
All proposals require a report once the session scheduled in that proposal are complete. This should be carried out through UAS, where an appropriate template can be downloaded.
In all cases this report should include any changes in methodology that were required and hightlight key results as well as indicate the status of the project(s) in light of these results. For BAG and Long Term Proposals, at each quarter an interim report is required to provide the Peer Review Panel with information on which to make their on-going award to the group.
The User Office also benefits from your comments on the ameneties we provide users with.
Experiment Reports are made available to the Peer Review Panel when they are considering further proposals from the same Principal Investigator and failure to submit a report can be considered detrimental for future instrument access.
The Diamond Publications and Open Access policy can be found here
Users publishing work containing synchrotron data from Diamond Light Source should ensure they acknowledge Diamond in all publications (including conference proceedings) arising from work carried out wholly or partially at Diamond. In addition, please consider authorship or individual acknowledgements for Diamond employees as appropriate.
The following acknowledgement statement must be included in all published reports:
“This work was carried out with the support of Diamond Light Source, instrument XXX (proposal XX12345)”
Appropriate acknowledgment should be given to the support given by beamline and technical staff. Since this is a matter of judgement the following guidelines are offered:
In addition Users should record their publication in the Diamond Publications Database.
Any research that has used funding from iNEXT should include the statement:
“This work has been supported by iNEXT, grant number 653706, funded by the Horizon 2020 programme of the European Union.”
Regarding publication of research findings resulting from beamtimes supported by the CALIPSOplus project:
Ø Publication of research results in open access journals is strongly encouraged. In case of joint publications involving facility staff, open access publication is a requirement from the EU.
Ø CALIPSOplus offers financial support for gold open access publications. Upon a simple request to the project management, the full publication costs may be covered. More information is available at the CALIPSOplus project website.
Ø Independently of the selected journal, every user who was supported by the trans-national access program of CALIPSOplus is obliged to acknowledge funding in his or her publication, using the following statement: The research leading to this result has been supported by the project CALIPSOplus under Grant Agreement 730872 from the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation HORIZON 2020.
Ø In addition, completing the HORIZON 2020 User survey: https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/791e56b4-18f9-0ab5-78e8-c9e2b9dc59ec is strongly encouraged.
The Diamond Communications team is keen to hear from you. If you plan to publish materials arising from your use of Diamond beyond a scientific journal (i.e. general media or press releases) please contact the Communications Team who can review the material and ensure it is ready for publication and also can help publicise your research on a wider scale.
