All radiation exposures at Diamond Light Source synchrotron facilities are controlled under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR'17), which implement the recommendations of ICRP Publication 103.
Working at a synchrotron beamline results in radiation exposure that is many orders of magnitude belowthe regulatory limit.

Synchrotron beamlines are designed with multiple independent safety systems that ensure radiation levels are negligible in areas where users work.
The combination of shielding, interlocks, and continuous monitoring ensures that radiation exposure at beamlines is maintained at levels far below regulatory limits.

Diamond Light Source has established protocols in accordance with IRR'17 for supporting pregnant staff and users, ensuring compliance with the 1 mSv fetal dose limit.
Pregnancy Declaration
Inform the RPA or Health Physics team in advance via User Office. This is voluntary but recommended.
Risk Assessment
RPA confirms work safety and documents that exposure will be < 1 mSv.
Personal Dosimetry
Personal dosimeter for additional reassurance can be requested via User Office. Monthly dose records available.
Ongoing Support
Health Physics team available for questions. Contact via User Office.
