Overview

We are pleased to announce the Diamond Light Source Small Angle Scattering (SAS) Fundamentals Training is now open for applications!

The training will include:

  • The theory of Small Angle Scattering (SAS)
  • The use of in-house and external data reduction and analysis software
  • Hands-on experience using the B21DL-SAXS and I22 SAXS beamlines here at Diamond.

During the training, attendees will have the opportunity to learn best practices for SAS sample preparation, data acquisition, processing and experience their first steps with scattering data analysis. 

This training is geared towards first year PhD students as well as other early days users of Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS)

Applications

There are limited spaces to attend this event, therefore attendance is subject to an application process.

Applications will be open until 12:00 midnight (GMT) on Sunday 2nd February 2025.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome on the week commencing Monday 3rd February 2025.

Please note that places on this training course are limited. In the case of oversubscription, there will be a limit on the number of attendees for each research group.

Attendance, accommodation and transport

Attendance to this training is free of charge.

All lunches and refreshments (plus a dinner on Wednesday 26th February) wlil be provided as part of the registration to the event. 

Three nights of accommodation at a local hotel, The Bear Wantage (check in on Monday 24th February, check out on Thursday 27th April) as well as transfers between Diamond and the hotel, will also be provided free of charge. 

All attendees will need to arrange and cover the cost of their transportation to and from Diamond Light Source at the start and end of the course. We will only be providing transfers between the hotel and Diamond throughout the duration of the training.
