I studied Physics Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, where I earned a bachelor’s degree followed by a master’s degree. Both of them consisted mainly of solid state physics classes, with a particular focus on semiconductors (for electronics and photonics application) and magnetic nanostructures.

Inside Diamond Schools is a series of events aimed at A-level or equivalent students, welcoming them to Diamond to meet our scientists, find out about the exciting work taking place here, and have a tour of the synchrotron itself.
We hope that by visiting Diamond students will learn more about the practical application of their studies and it will stir their interest in science and engineering and perhaps encourage them towards further study.
Diamond is a particle accelerator which uses a beam of electrons travelling at almost the speed of light to create intense, powerful beams of light. We use this light to study the atomic and molecular structure of materials - everything from viral proteins to engine parts and ancient texts - to help scientists understand more about the way the world works.

Due to the nature of the facility we can only accommodate a limited number of visitors and to ensure that many schools can partake we limit tickets to 20 per booking (please note this number includes students AND staff). As these events are oversubscribed we are operating a random ballot. If there are less ballot entries than places at the closing dates then additional places will be awarded on a first come first served basis.
