Biography

Yiming completed his BSc(Hons) in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Manchester in 2023. In his final-year project, he researched graphene oxide-protein nanocomposite electrode materials for more sustainable supercapacitors, supervised by Dr Christopher Blanford. He developed a synthesis workflow for the nanocomposite materials and built a custom cell to measure the electrochemical properties.

Yiming is currently doing a PhD in Materials at the University of Oxford, in collaboration with Diamond Light Source as a visiting student at ePSIC. His research interest lies in understanding the ion transport properties of the solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) in lithium metal batteries. He aims to develop reproducible sample preparation methods that enables direct characterisation of the SEI nanostructure using low-dose electron microscopy, in conjunction with electrochemical and surface analysis results. He is co-supervised by Professor Mauro Pasta (Department of Materials, University of Oxford) and Dr Christopher Allen.
