Diamond regularly hosts students and academics from higher education (university equivalent and above) for more bespoke visits.

Diamond regularly hosts students and academics from higher education (university equivalent and above) for more bespoke visits.

A typical visit will take approximately 2 hours and will consist of: 

• An introductory talk giving a general overview of Diamond and what it is used for (approx 45 minutes)
• A tour of the facility (approx 1 hour 15 minutes)

It may be possible to add more tailored aspects to the visit, e.g. a short additional talk on a particular beamline by its scientist. If you would like us to cover a particular subject area then please be specific when arranging the visit. However, this is dependent on who, or what beamlines are available on the day.

We can try to work dates to suit you, although the earlier you contact us the more flexible we can be, as we are limited by room and staff availability. The visits would usually have to be during the daytime on a weekday. 

Please note that these visits are likely to take place while we are operational, and while we can offer an interesting tour, unlike our Inside Diamond: public open days, we can't guarantee access to the synchrotron machine itself.

Interest in these events is quite high and we advise contacting us at least 3 months before your proposed visit.

• Typically we limit numbers to between 10 and 36 visitors, although smaller or larger groups can be considered.
• During the guided tour there will be extensive walking. We advise all visitors to wear comfortable, closed-toed footwear.
• We have very few restrictions for those with health and mobility issues. We will ask you to tell us of any special requirements during registration so we can ensure suitable tour routes are available.
• It can feel quite warm in the synchrotron building, so please utilise the facilities available to leave any layers or coats before the tours.
