Ali obtained his MSc in Physics from the University of Mazandaran (2014) and his PhD in Physics from Shahid Beheshti University (2020) in Tehran, where he focused on the fabrication and optical studies of anisotropic 2D materials. He joined the B07 group at Diamond Light Source as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in January 2025. Before this, he was a Research Associate at Ulster University (2022–2024), focusing on plasma processes and nanomaterials synthesis, and a Visiting Researcher at Queen’s University Belfast, specializing in advanced electron microscopy of low-dimensional materials. He previously worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Shahid Beheshti University (2020–2022) on doping strategies for 2D TMDs and as a Visiting PhD Researcher at Eindhoven University of Technology (2017–2018) on infrared-emitting van der Waals materials.
Ali’s research expertise and interests include developing low-dimensional materials, plasma-surface interaction, synchrotron-based XPS, and electron microscopy. His current work focuses on developing size-selected clusters for heterogeneous catalysis.
