Avinash Kavva, Mechanical Design Engineer

1. What’s your professional background and how did you first become interested in this field?
I am a Mechanical Design Engineer who evolved from real time experience in this field, at the same time my UK Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering & Project Management assisted me to gain knowledge of engineering & management concepts which have been applied in my daily work activities. When I was pursuing my Bachelor Degree in Production Engineering, we used to design and develop prototypes as part of the subject called 'Product Development'. During this period, I gained knowledge in 3D CAD design, manufacturing techniques, production planning and some of the core subjects made me to have career in Mechanical Engineering.
 

2. Can you walk us through a typical day?
My daily activities at Diamond start with Pro-E, a 3D design package where all mechanical engineers can design, optimise and modify beamline equipment as per the requirements set by the scientist. Apart from the designing, I am also involved in producing detail drawings, liaising with suppliers, getting quotations, placing the orders, arranging meetings with the scientists & cross functional teams to discuss the designs, and so forth.

3. What do you enjoy about your job?
I like to take on design challenges to meet the requirements of some of the UK’s best scientists working at Diamond. So, my life at Diamond is exciting and interesting because of not only the daily challenges but also the knowledge that I gain from each challenge.

4. What advice would you give to someone wanting to get involved in your field?
Each person has their own talent, take some time to explore the world, extract your talent, develop it, implement it to build a better society.
