Sahil Tippireddy

Sahil obtained his PhD in condensed matter physics from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India working on thermoelectric materials for power generation applications. For his PhD work, using advanced characterization tools, spectroscopy techniques and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, he investigated the effect of single and double element substitution on the phase stability, structure, bonding, band structure, magnetism and transport properties of materials derived from tetrahedrite (Cu₁₂Sb₄S₁₃). After his PhD, Sahil continued working in thermoelectrics as a postdoctoral research associate (PDRA) at the University of Reading, UK. He performed a detailed characterization of chalcopyrite (CuFeS₂) and bornite (Cu₅FeS₄) compositions, based on research at Diamond and ISIS, to develop low-cost and highly-efficient n- and p-type materials to be incorporated in thermoelectric devices. Sahil joined Diamond in 2022 as a Senior Support Scientist in the Magnetic Materials Group (MMG) and manages the Materials Characterisation Laboratory which provides offline facilities in support of the science programmes across the beamlines. He also supports the user activity on the MMG beamlines, and in particular the Resonant Inelastic X-Ray Scattering program on beamline I21.
