At Diamond varying magnetic arrangements are used to produce synchrotron radiation (SR), the ultimate purpose of an electron storage ring. Depending on the kind of scientific investigation, different devices can be utilised with specific features: undulators, wigglers and bending magnets.
This is an exciting opportunity to develop new synchrotron radiation sources at a world-class facility. During this project you will work from the recently published Conceptual Design Report (CDR) for Diamond-II and complete a full characterisation of the four custom sources introduced in that study. There might also be the possibility of introducing modifications in the present storage ring configuration to insert dipoles in the relevant mid-straights.
The project entails a full immersion in both the electron-beam tracking aspects and in the production and propagation of synchrotron radiation (SR) through different beamlines.
Diamond Light Source is the UK's national synchrotron science facility, located at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire.
