Diamond welcome 2015 undergraduate student placements

This summer, Diamond extends a warm welcome to a cohort of undergraduate students who are visiting the facility for 8-12 week work placements. The Diamond Student Summer Placement scheme allows undergraduate students studying for a degree in Science, Engineering, Computing or Mathematics to gain experience working within a professional environment at the UK’s largest science facility.

 

The placements are split into three categories: scientific data analysis, physical sciences, and biological sciences. These paid positions are designed to provide students with the unique opportunity to work on a research or development project within Diamond and to visit research teams based at the synchrotron and other facilities on site. Training is also provided to allow the students to give a short presentation on their work and to summarise their activities in a poster. Students will also take part in a communication competition, working to engage the public with their work and effectively convey their research to others. The students will now remain at Diamond until September, and will depart with valuable experience of the professional world of modern science.

 

We are also happy to announce that we have three undergraduate sandwich student placements who will be spending a 'Year in Industry' with Diamond. The Diamond Student Sandwich Placement scheme is an exciting opportunity to gain working experience within an operational scientific environment and projects are usually designed to run for 12 months, from June 2015-May 2016.
