Biography
Ph.D. at Diamond Light Source
I worked at Diamond Light Source (beamline I16) for 4 years as a part of my Ph.D. research program at University College London. While at Diamond, I was involved in the study of the electronic and magnetic properties of novel materials, with a focus on transition metal oxides. My role involved the experimental investigation of the samples by means of several x-ray scattering (both elastic and inelastic) and absorption techniques and the analysis and visualization of the collected data. It was an incredibly formative and enriching experience both technically and personally, during which I had the opportunity to learn from some of the main experts in the field in a stimulating and fun environment.
Current role
Soon after completing my Ph.D. program in 2018, I decided to take on a new challenge in the private sector and joined ASML, a multinational company with headquarters in Eindhoven (the Netherlands) which develops and manufactures lithographic systems for the production of semiconductor integrated circuits.
I currently work as a Design Engineer / Data Analyst in the performance department of the company, which is responsible for assessing the performance of our current lithographic scanners before delivering them to our customers, while, at the same time, identifying potential performance improvements for future platforms. My job is mainly data driven and involves the analysis of measurement data meant to test the focus performance of the system.
Next to the data analysis activities (which occupy most of my working day), I am also regularly involved in (i) the design of tests aimed at addressing the performance impact of new hardware or software features, (ii) the presentation of the analysis results to my team and our stakeholders and (iii) the knowledge transfer to new hires. Overall, my research experience at Diamond proved to be crucial in developing all the technical and soft skills that I am using on a daily basis in my current job.
