Applications are invited for the above post in the School of Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Hull.
The person appointed will work as part of our dynamic team who are developing cutting edge ultrasound based technologies for processing a wide range of metallic alloys. The successful candidate will join the growing activities of the ultrasound based solidification research programme funded by The Royal Society and EPSRC in close collaboration with Brunel University and Diamond Light Source, the UK national Synchrotron X-ray facility.
Candidates should already have obtained a PhD or equivalent in the field of materials, chemistry, engineering, physics or other related disciplines. The knowledge and/or experience on the interaction of ultrasonic waves with materials in liquid or semi-solid states are essential. Candidates with multi-physics modelling experience, especially with Phase Field modelling expertise, are particularly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will lead the research tasks of using laser and synchrotron X-ray based techniques, and advanced numerical modelling method to study the dynamics of ultrasound bubbles in different media and their interaction with materials. The candidate need to have a strong drive to work independently and effectively in an interdisciplinary research environment with frequent visits and experiments to be carried out at Brunel University, Diamond Light Source and other industry partners.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an interdisciplinary research team which is internationally renowned for developing advanced ultrasound-based solidification technologies. Significant support will be given to the successful candidate to develop their own career ambitions. In particular, focus on publication of outcomes and high quality peer reviewed journals will be expected and supported due to the adventurous and multidisciplinary nature of the project.
This post is available immediately and will be offered on fixed-term basis for a period of 36 months.
