We are contributing to the global scientific effort to understand more about the SARS-CoV-2 virus and possible therapies.
Protein crystallography is one of the techniques being used at Diamond, which allows scientists to visuals at the atomic level the interactions of chemical compounds with viral proteins.
This information is used directly in the design and development of compounds aimed at becoming clinically useful drugs to combat COVID-19.
One key viral protein being studied at Diamond is the "main protease" (a.k.a. MPRO), a critical part of the molecular machinery that the virus builds to replace itself.
This video series will illustrate this process, taking place at Diamond's XChem facility.
