DETECTORS

DD allows to measure the total electron yield (TEY) and fluorescence yield (TFY). The following detectors are available:

The MCP and CCD are not permanently installed but can be used on request.

Samples can be glued on this sample holder using silver paint or carbon tape.

Samples can be clamped vertically to be measured in transmission, e.g., membrane samples.

Sample holder for transmission

This sample holder allows measurements in transmission. As the sample is mounted planar over the central hole, the accessible range of the sample is limited. The advantage is the better thermal contact between the sample and sample holder, important for heating or cooling experiments. The sample can either be glued or held in place by a mask.

Sample holder for electrical excitations

A sample can be mounted on a chip carrier (bottom left in the image) and wire-bonded. Both chip carrier and sample are simply plucked into the modified Omicron plate, making sample change easy. Sample transfer is done in the same way as for standard Omicron plates. The 4 contacts of the sample holder allow 4-or 2-point-resistance measurements, electrical biasing and gating. When using a chip carrier with hole, the sample can be measured in transmission. Simultaneous heating and cooling is possible, but the thermal contact to the sample will be reduced due to the insulating parts and caramics of the chip carrier.
