Mastering Powder Diffraction at DIAD

The Mastering Powder Diffraction at DIAD event is open to beginners and newcomers to X-ray Powder Diffraction. This course will give attendees a working understanding of how X-ray scattering and powder diffraction (PXRD) can be used for research and how they can collect PXRD at the DIAD beamline at Diamond. This event will also teach attendees how to work with the data they collect at DIAD, giving them the practice to confidently analyse and interpret PXRD data.

Overview

This three-day course has been designed for complete beginners and would benefit PhD students, postdocs, as well as other DIAD users who are new to X-ray powder diffraction.

This training will include:

  • Theory of X-ray scattering and powder diffraction (PXRD).
  • Use of in-house and external data reduction and analysis software.
  • Hands-on experience using the DIAD beamlines here at Diamond.

During the training, attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to interpret powder diffraction data, perform quantitative phase analysis, and analyse the size and strain of crystalline materials. This training will explain the fundamentals of X-ray powder scattering analysis while introducing state-of-the-art line profile analysis methods.

As part of the event, we will provide information and examples of coupled imaging diffraction experiments that can be performed at Diamond Light Source.
