The high brilliance of the insertion device source on I22 allows structural investigation of materials under extreme environments (for example fluid flow at high pressures and temperatures). I22 provides reliable access to millisecond and shorter time scales, essential to understanding kinetic processes such as early folding events in proteins.
Simultaneous recording of both small and wide angle X-ray scattering (SAXS and WAXS) techniques in combination allows users to probe length scales ranging from a few Angstroms to several microns with high resolution.
