Beamline I15 is dedicated to X-ray scattering experiments under extreme pressure and temperature conditions. A high energy X-ray beamline with a wiggler source (20 – 80 keV) it is used for powder diffraction and XPDF experiments (single crystal also available on request). Research topics include fundamental physics and chemistry, Earth and planetary science, materials science and engineering, and bio-molecular science.
Floor Plan
Floor plan of I15 (shown in orange) and XPDF side station (shown in blue). Both beamlines share the first optics hutch (OH1), CIA and preparation lab (shown in pink).
Optical Schematic
I15 has two stations (diffractometer and micro-focussing table) in the first experimental hutch (EH1).
- The first optical element is a cryo-cooled Si(111) double crystal monochromator (DCM). Its performance is critical as it determines the performance of the beamline.
DCM specifications
- Si(111) intrinsic bandpass: 1.4 x 10-4
- DCM divergence limited bandpass: 1 x 10-3
- Energy range: 20-80 keV
- The DCM is followed by a set of large KB-mirrors: Vertical focussing mirror (VFM), horizontally focussing mirror (HFM).
Large KB mirror specifications
- Optical active area: 1150 x 60 mm, total length 1350 mm
- Monochromatic and white beam
- VFM: Pt coated, HFM 3-stripes for harmonic rejection: Pt, Ni, Si
- Pitch range used 1-2 mrad for maximum flux collection
Small KB mirror specifications
- Optical active area: 280 x 20 mm total length 300 mm
- Monochromatic beam
- Pt coated
- Pitch range used 1-2 mrad for maximum flux collection
