Sarah Day is a Senior Support Scientist on Beamline I11. She joined Diamond as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in 2014 after completing her PhD in Astrophysics at Keele University.

Research Expertise -

I am a Senior Support Scientist on Beamline I11. My main role is to support the operations of the LDE Facility, provide user support, with a focus on aiding users with data analysis, and conduct in-house research.

Current Research Interests

The main focus of my PhD was to study the formation and evolution of cosmic dust grains using high-resolution powder diffraction. In-situ studies of cosmic dust analogues were performed on Beamline I11 under non-ambient temperature and pressure conditions, relevant to those found in a range of astrophysical environments, in order to understand the effect that thermal annealing and solid-gas interactions have on their structure. 

 

In addition to this, since starting at Diamond, I have been involved in the study of novel Li-ion battery materials, performing in-situ time-resolved experiments, as well as Long Duration studies of these materials.
