Two beamlines achieve first light!

It was a novel event on Tuesday 12th May when two separate beamlines achieved first light on the same day. The screens in the control room lit up with fluorescent images as beamlines I07 (Surface and Interface diffraction) and I12 (JEEP) received synchrotron light for the first time.

Principal beamline scientist for Beamline I07, Surface and Interface Diffraction Chris Nicklin (shown seated in picture, front right) is delighted. He says, "Thank you to all the people involved (some shown) in getting I07 to this stage."

Also achieving first light on Tuesday 12th May, JEEP is the first beamline to have an experimental hutch situated outside, as well as the standard one within the synchrotron building. Principal Beamline Scientist for the Joint Engineering, Environmental and Processing beamline, Michael Drakopoulos, says, "It is great to reach this significant milestone. I'd like to thank all the team and everyone who was involved in achieving this. Now we look forward to first users later this year."
