Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme at Diamond Light Source
As part of the STFC apprenticeship scheme, Diamond is able to offer placements in a facility supporting ground-breaking research in the life, physical and environmental sciences.
Find out more at the STFC Open Day on Tuesday 9 March 2011
Diamond can offer apprentices the chance to get involved in very high spec electronics and controls systems, mechanical manufacture and maintenance, along with many other relevant activities to develop and increase their engineering skills. At the end of a four year course (which includes 1 year at college) an apprentice will be well equipped with relevant skills for their chosen career path along with extensive experience of working in a sophisticated cutting edge facility.
Diamond has been part of the scheme for the last three years, which has been operated successfully by RAL for 19 years. It is regarded as one of the best engineering apprenticeships in the country. The scheme is run by STFC. To apply please visit http://www.apprentices.stfc.ac.uk/Applying.aspx
To date we have one apprentice who has completed his placement at Diamond and four more who began in January this year. Simon Beazley was Diamond’s first apprentice. He completed a 9 month placement at Diamond.
Read more about Simon’s time at Diamond with 2 interviews he gave during his time with us.
