We will be barcoding pucks from April 2017 onwards.
As part of ongoing improvements in the areas of sample tracking and managing remote users sessions, we will be etching 2D barcodes on all pucks that come through the MX beamlines. The barcode duplicates the existing puck ID text in Data Matrix format. Once the systems are in place, these barcodes will be used to automatically assign puck IDs to positions in the robot dewar. An example of a barcoded puck can be seen here: Beamlines/Mx/Common/Common-Manual/Sample-Holders/Pucks-and-pins.html.

New remote access connection available
As result of BART installation, in situ is no longer available on I04-1. But now anyway far better on I03 and I24.
New BART robot installed on I04-1 too - 37 pucks, 592 samples, 22sec exchange times! First use in anger: 980 datasets in <40 hours.
Large Pilatus 6M detector now installed
The beamline now also has a large P6M Pilatus detector, bringing it on par with the other MX beamlines: in practice, this will mean lower background and better signal-to-noise, especially for the weak high resolution reflections.
We inherited this detector from I03 after their detector upgrade; and our old P2M detector, that gave such good service for many years, will move to bigger and better things on I19.

Collision sensing installed for robot
The sample changer robot now features collision sensing, implemented by the vendor (IRELEC).
We predict this will improve reliability because it allows robust rescue from in-dewar collisions so that adjacent pins needn't get knocked over. Beyond that, it greatly reduces the danger of damage to the beamline, and speeds up helping users deal with robot issues.
HC1 is no longer available on I04-1 for routine beamtime
Because the installation is unsatisfactory (no fast HC1-cryo switching), and causes comlpicated conflicts with queued data collection mode, we've decided not to do HC1 for a while. The other MX beamlines do it better, so plan to do it there for now.
Washer is working, FINALLY! Thanks for your patience. Hopefully it actually washes :)
After being the first beamline to install it after I02, we discovered it was in fact a somewhat major project: because of our goniometer geometry, the liquid nitrogen spilt into the box and messed up the component.
What it needed was special hardware (a gutter), extra cabling, and a complete rewrite of the crash control. Now we're still tweaking the actual wash parameters.
Crystals now spins FAST during alignment! We spin it at 1rpm...
The sample annealer is back in operation!
GDA GUI focus now follows the process being used. For instance, when centring the focus goes to the Alignment tab, or when the queue is paused, the focus goes to Data Collection > Command Queue. And when the required action is executed, the focus goes back to where it was before the action prompt.
Apertures are now autocentred automatically every time a new aperture size is requested. The process is: autocentre beam then autocentre requested aperture.
Mini-kappa back in action! Automatic crystal axisalignment strategy also available.
You can now select multiple lines in the GDA Log Panel Ctrl- and Shift-click. They ae copied to the X buffer and you can paste with a middle/wheel click.

A mechanical catch was installed near the goniometer.
It guards the sample environment against gripper collisions and unintentional transfers of whole puck lids, protecting the sample envioronment, noteably the beamstop.
