Recovering Samples
If you brought your samples in unipucks:
- Cool the unipuck enclosure in liquid nitrogen
- Screw the puck pusher into the unipuck enclosure
- Using the alignment notches, align the puck over the base in the sample change and push firmly down
- Pull the tool towards you slightly to release the magnet holding the base plate
- Remove the puck from the dewar and return to your shipper
If you used the vial puck tool, follow the instructions above, using the vial puck enclosure loaded with vials to match the location of your samples.
- Chill the hedgehog tool (red annodised base with 16 'spikes')
- Position the vial puck onto the hedgehog using the alignment notches
- Use the puck pusher rod to release the base plate from the vial puck, leaving the pins in vials in the vial puck
- Remove the base plate from the hedgehog tool
- Using tongs, invert the vial puck so the pin bases point upwards
- Relocate the vial puck on the hedgehog tool and push it firmly down
- The vials containing the pins will be pushed out of the vial puck and can be collected by tongs or using a magnetic wand, and returned to their canes for transport
